A: If you use 3rd generation bulbs you can indeed use them in cans. I have them in a bathroom over my shower in SEALED cans meant for halogen bulbs. The Hue bulbs are the same brightness and color as the halogens and have the advantage of color changes. I am even experimenting with the Echo Plus as my ONLY bridge. It is currently limited only by software which I am working to overcome with IFTTT and other software.
Q: Can these be used in a holagen lamp
A: These are common A19 socket bulbs. Tungsten Halogen is a type of filament used in a specific type of light bulb. It's kind of like asking if a banana can be used in an apple. If your lamp, regardless of the bulb, takes an A19 bulb, then, yes.
A: The box the philips Hue White and color ambiance came in says 300 Lumen. Not as bright as the Philips 464503 Hue White and Color A19 LED Bulb, 3rd Generation with Richer Colors with 800 lum, however, this has shorter height for such things as curio cabinets. Works great for that purpose. That's why I bought it. I also have the 3rd generation bulbs 464503 that do have the 800 lumens.
A: 3rd gen
Q: Is this a 2nd or 3rd generation?
A: 2nd.
