Easy to set up, works very well

From opening the box to having my LG3 phone balanced and shooting some test video - less than ten minutes. A cell phone will not fit on this all by itself, you will need a bracket to hold your cell and have the threading to match the 1/4" mounting bolt. I used a "Smart Bracket" found at a local camera shop. I used one small weight angled just a bit to the left to compensate for the way I placed the cell in the bracket. I also had to turn the bracket around in order to achieve the desired balance. That was it. I'm thinking with one more gizmo from my stash of camera accessories I will be able to turn the bracket back to normal position and have unobstructed view of cell's screen. Next will be to try the SONY camcorder and I'm confident the set up will go as smooth. I don't shoot video with a DSLR so cant speak to that kind of gear but for the lightweight stuff this holds great promise for much smoother handheld videos Well made and finish is even and nice looking. Knurled knob for securing the camera to device could have been larger for a better grip if you have anything like average size fingers. Otherwise a nice product. I give 4 instead of 5 stars because it could sell at a lower price point considering the online competition but BBY's asking price is not outrageous and if there's need for a return the nearest store is 15 minutes away and no shipping charges. Though sales tax can negate that I suppose.

Upon opening packaging was impressed with fit and finish of components. Not so much with instructions. A little common sense and You Tube to the rescue. In minutes assembled and a Nikon 1J2 is mounted. Now the tedious part, fine tuning and developing your technique. Its simple constructions and set up belies the time needed to properly set up, understand and perform the technique necessary to get the most performance out it and your video camera. After experimenting using my cell phone, Nikon 1J2 and Sony HDR-CX110 my sense of it is the lighter the device the more challenging the set up. For my purposes I have discovered that the stabilizer and its foam packing material, slightly modified to fit device after being set up for particular device, fit into a spare neoprene sleeve meant for a laptop with a 16" screen. An inexpensive way to transport and store your stabilizer. It works, seems well made and finished for a reasonable price. Certainly not the least expensive stabilizer out there but close enough for me. And if it needed returning the local BBY store is 15 minutes away.

    No, not good!

This was very difficult to use. Not at all recommended for beginners, which incidentally this is geared towards. When you make a cost effective product you gear it towards the novice, pros or pro-sumers tend to have upgraded gear. The manual is written as if you already have an idea on what to do, lacks any real detail. Secondly after reviewing videos this stabilizer fails to allow you to perform things such as the drop test to gauge sway....which is HORRIBLE on this unit. If you want cheap, don't care if your videos have that "swaying boat" look and you have 12 hours to try and calibrate.....you have found your stabilizer. If you're like me and actually enjoy living your life and want something to enhance your memories......don't even bother. Its garbage.

I bought this to use with my Canon Rebel T6i. Initial impressions were good, the stabilizer comes in nice packaging and fit and finish are impressive. It holds the camera securely and the included counterbalances are sufficient to stabilize my camera with a shotgun mic attached. My biggest complaint is that the ball bearing that connects the handle to the actual stabilizer feels very gritty which kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. Its so gritty that I find myself focusing on the feel of the stabilizer instead of the shot which is incredibly distracting.

On My 6D Not So Great

I'm well aware it's a 60 dollar piece, I wasn't expecting a huge deal. It did eliminate the handheld shakiness FOR SURE, but it sways too much to be usable. At least my 6D is on the heavier side with the 24-105 lense, so it's probably best recommended for smaller cameras, GoPro, Mirrorless, etc. Still, the swaying, in part can be fixed with a good hand at stabilizing, but even when still, there's a small pendulum effect. The handle isn't very soft either, it creaks a bit on the inside when being moved. Will return and exchange for something else.

Well built stabilizer, could be difficult to use

This is a very well built tool but it could be difficult to use if you don't have it set up properly. Setting up the counter weights to balance it out is the most difficult part. It is also very sensitive while in use and is solely operator based (all movements are on you, no automatic sensor). Overall, good price (I payed the open box price) for what you get but it is definitely a user based tool.

I read about this and it had mixed reviews but I figured to try it out anyway. When I got to the store, they only had Open Box versions on sale (for less $ of course), and I figured people just returned them. After getting it myself, it was apparent why. Determining the counterweights and adjustments was not easy and with very little wiggle room for actually making adjustments. I can see why these are priced far lower than other better models.

I purchased this product because it was the only stabilizer that Best Buy was carrying. I was shown how to use it in the store. When I actually tried to use it, it was difficult getting it level and when I was walking the camera wouldn't stay straight. It kept spinning around in circles. I am going to look online to see if there was something that I am not doing correctly, if not, its going back to the store.
