    Synopsis

    Predators
A group of hardened killers are hunted on an alien planet in producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal's entry into the popular sci-fi action franchise. Mercenaries, murderers, gangsters, and convicts, they were the most feared men on Earth. But now they're a long way from home, and when the predators become the prey, fearless mercenary Royce (Adrien Brody) prepares for the fight of his life. And he's not alone, because Mexican gangster Cuchillo (Danny Trejo), Israeli Defense Forces veteran Isabelle (Alice Braga), notorious mass murderer Stans (Walton Goggins), Russian Special Forces operative Nikolai (Oleg Taktarov), RUF death squad member Mombasa (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali), and sword-wielding Yakuza Hanzo (Louis Ozawa Changchien) are all armed to the teeth, and out for blood. The odd man out is Edwin (Topher Grace), a once-prominent physician whose career came to an end following a big scandal. When the motley crew encounters Noland (Laurence Fishburne), a resourceful human who has somehow managed to survive on the alien's hunting grounds for some time, they prepare to take the ultimate stand against the most powerful Predators yet. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I was pleasantly surprised by this Rodriguez production.. Clearly the mindset from the get go was to create something new, but give it that original (1987) Predator feel... And they did it! I really appreciate the fact that director Nimród Antal & producer Robert Rodriguez brought back that thrilling sense of dread & high Adrenalin rush that we felt watching the original, (1987) Predator film. .. They really put a new face on an old storyline and added all kinds of twists and turns to a point, you really don't know how it's going to end, other than the fact that we know there will be a final showdown, between man & alien. Adrien Brody gave a fine performance, much better than what he attempted in " King Kong," with his more muscular appearance and cool demeanor, he really fit the part as the protagonist and definitely surprised me with his tough guy character, he basically carried the film, with the other characters having limited screen time. One thing that had me confounded was Danny Trejo's quick demise, I just don't know what they were thinking when they eliminated his character early on, when everybody would have loved to see a showdown between him and a Predator.. Oh, well.. can't have it all. But they did kind of make up for it, when they pitted the Japanese Yakuza, solo, against the hunter Predator. This Blu-Ray image is tight, clean and basically what you expect out of a Blu-Ray disc. Blacks are inky, jungle colors are lush and I saw no hints of DNR anywhere on this disc. It was also nice they included a digital copy. (score 9.0) Audio is the high point of this disc, with a 5.1 DTS-HD soundtrack that uses the entire sound field, with discrete sounds coming from the rear and dialog coming thru strong in the front.. It's and exception soundtrack that will have your sub & surrounds pounding from all angles. (audio 9.5) Extra's consist of a documentary or " The making of Predators " called: "Evolution of the Species: 'Predators' Reborn" , this (40:00) minute document is presented in HD and I found it answered alot of questions I had concerning production. " The Chosen " in HD is a (4:52) minute document that you definitely do not want to watch if you haven't seen the film.. spoilers! " Deleted and Extended Scenes " in HD (11:21) this was very good & worth watching. " Predators Trailer " HD (1:56) basic item that should come with every Blu-Ray. Extra's are a bit light, but not bad. again you also get a digital copy of the movie. (Extra's 5.5) I will rate this Blu-Ray high overall and would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves SciFi, it delivers!

      Awesome, a worthy sequel

This movie was awesome from start to finish. It wasn't as good as the original, but then what sequels that come years later ever are? It was better than Predator 2 (which had a lot of standstill moments with the main character yelling at people cause they wouldn't let him do his job), and it is much better than the AVP drivel. The acting in this movie was all great. The CGI wasn't overdone. People who say this is too much like the original are wrong. They have some of the same kind of props, like one of the weapons is the same. But the plot and all of the scenes are totally different. I was very impressed by all of the "Predator vision" shots. People who say the Predators where too easy to kill, unlike the one in the original, need to consider that if they where that tough the humans would die in the first twenty minutes, seeing as there are many more Predators in this one. Compare Alien to Aliens. The Aliens where much easier to kill than the one in the first one. But in this one they did things that where different. Like they where willing to sacrifice themselves to kill the Predators. They never caught the Predator in a direct explosion in the original like they did here. It was always near but not spot on to the Predator in the first movie. I love how brutally tough the Predators where when fighting hand to hand. As an entry to the series I give this a 7.5/10 Conservatively I give this movie an 8/10 Being generous I give it a 10/10

Predators is a great complimentary sequel to the original. Eventhough it lacks the big action star appeal and classic (cheesy) one-liners, Predators still delivers what you want from a sci-fi, action film: gunfights, suspense and a dash humor from a rich diverse group of dynamic, and stoic, characters. Adrien Brody is no Arnold, but he packed on some muscle for his role and it helps him deliver as the lead hero. Alice Braga does a great job playing a reserved, dedicated soldier. Danny Trejo does a wicked immitation of Danny Trejo. Walten Goggins does a superb job playing a sociopath. Topher Grace is very skillful playing the innocent wild card. Oleg Taktarov (15 Minutes), Mahershala Ali (House of Cards) and Louis Ozawa Changchien (numberous tv shows) are all way underused but play what little screen time they are given to their fullest considering they are cannon fodder. (The bushido scene between Hanzo and one of the Predators is immaculate and plays as though Hanzo is not just a hired gun, but well versed in his culture.) Haven't watched the deleted scenes yet. Not sure why they weren't available as an extended cut either. Regardless, enjoyed this movie and hope they make another.

A true Sci Fi classic worthy of the original!

How do you top an original, it 's not easy when your dealing with a Sci Fi classic. Leave it up to Robert Rodriguez and the talented producers and writers to set Predators up with a great start . The cast led by Adrien Brody, then insures you are more concerned about the characters than paying attention to the movies fantastic special effects. Just when you think you have the movie figured out you have a surprise that no one sees coming. Even with a short amount of screen time, Laurence Fishburne delivers an Oscar worthy performance. And before the end there's still a few more surprises which guarantees the movie as an instant Sci Fi Classic worthy of the original. Adding the bonus material on the Blu-Ray version only intensifies the story and makes it a must have for any Predator, Sci Fi, or Action/Adventure Movie fan.

If you're a fan of the original Predator and its sequel come into this one with low expectations. The acting isn't great, the plot is all over the place, but it has some decent action scenes. I've seen far worse in terms of franchise sequels but wouldn't really recommend it to someone who isn't a loyal fan of the Predator franchise. It's better than the Alien vs. Predator movies but that's not saying much. Predators script doesn't hold up and it seemed at times even the actors couldn't take their own roles seriously anymore. It has Lawrence Fishburne and Adrien Brody but even they can't save this movie. If it's cheap buy it (it's what I did) otherwise a rental is good enough.

Although this movie came out way later then the first two movies, I would say this movie was a great sequel. There's only so much I can say without ruining the movie but it's definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it yet. The movie starts off with a group of people waking up in a jungle. Unknown of their location, they soon discover why they were put in this place and have to face a threat so unimaginable and terrifying that only the strongest will survive. If your a fan of the Predator and Alien movies, I would definitely recommend this movie. Thanks for reading.

I have given this movie 5 stars. Why? Because this movie expanded the Predator universe a bit...the film did something new, which a lot of sequels fail to do. I was very skeptical of Adrien Brody when I heard he was cast, but I was pleasantly surprised. I saw this film in theaters and enjoyed it. Is it as awesome as the original Predator film with Arnold? No, of course not, but it's better than Predator 2. This is worth checking out if you're into the Alien/Predator universe and have not yet seen it, and it should not be compared to the other recent Alien vs. Predator movies (which were epically disappointing).

Adrien Brody does his best, and really, this is a perfectly fine sort-of sequel to the first two Predator films. My only real gripes are the really noticeable CGI (in parts), and some lazy plot points. Still, the individual actors (Fishburne, Grace, Brody, etc.) do a great job, but it just doesn't gel very well. I can recommend the film as a big Predator film, because, well, it's a Predator film. It's much better than the AvP series, but that's not saying much. Definitely a pick-up for Predator fans, and it does come with a (standard definition) iTunes copy.
