Q: Can you cook on the stove top with the crockpot insert?
A: No!!! Do not, I just broke mine doing that. Big mess!!
Q: lid gasket is not a consistent oval
A: I've only had my crock-pot for a short while, so can't vouch for the longevity of the seal. But I expect it should last. At least to keep food from leaking out during transport; it's not to be locked down when cooking. If it becomes a problem during the warranty period, perhaps a return for replacement would be in order.
Q: Can this double as a rice cooker as well? So i don't have to buy that separately
A: Yes, as long as you put enough water into the pot and let it stew for about 4 hours. A rice cooker is much faster
Q: DOES IT FIT A WHOLE CHICKEN/HEN FOR COOKING DURING THE DAY??
A: It would probably need to be a smaller chicken (some these days look like a small turkey!). Or if you cut it up, it would probably fit.
