    Synopsis

    Punch-Drunk Love
Adam Sandler and Emily Watson star in Punch-Drunk Love, an odd romantic comedy from gifted young director Paul Thomas Anderson. Sandler plays Barry Egan, a shy sad-sack with a great deal of repressed anger that occasionally bursts forth in sudden violent outrages, who falls in love with Lena Leonard (Emily Watson), a co-worker of one of Barry's seven sisters. After calling a phone-sex line, Barry is extorted by bad-guy Dean Trumbell (Anderson regular Philip Seymour Hoffman), who eventually sends four goons to assault Barry and get the money. This film was screened in competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, where Paul Thomas Anderson was named Best Director. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

To the guy above, this is not a movie meant to be a silly comedy, its a film that explores the more sensitive and subtle sides of humanity. It an AMAZING film, beautifully made, funny, and poignant but it is not a film for fans of Adam Sandlers usual work. He really stretches his acting ability here and he does an amazing job. This DVD set has great special features and beautiful packaging. All in all, a great purchase.

the video quality isnt amazing but it is very filmic and i suppose that is a great quality to have. also has a wealth of extras. 25$ is a bit steep. criterion should only charge 15$ or 19.99$ max imo...

Really different side to the sandman. Has done a couple more serious type movies, but if you are looking for typical sandman movies this is not for you. Worth watching for sure otherwise

Not what I'd expect from Adam Sandler

The movie plot is strange and at some points confusing, but what seems most off is that Adam Sandler is typically funny and upbeat, but he plays a disturbed character and it seems largely unfitting for his personality.

This will be different from a typical rom com that you might be expecting, but that's what makes it interesting and good.

Not normal Adam Sandler, his best performance. He's so angry.
