I believe the idea is to make the tv sturdier. It's much easier to tip over a TV with a center base... especially if you have a dog.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Having had many TVs, I'm willing to guarantee it's because it's cheaper to manufacture a TV with the stands on the sides. The central stands usually are quite heavy and thick to support the weight of the TV. They also typically are metal to support the TV. Newer TVs come with thin, plastic legs to balance the TV. I don't like it either, but it is likely part of the reason why TVs are becoming so much more affordable.
