I am not sure how the actual quality of the overall picture compares. When I am watching a DVD, it depends on the quality of the processing of the DVD. The bluray is really good. It doesn't have the layers of colour (say, when looking at the sky when it fades from light aqua in the horizon to a semi light french ultramarine in the foreground). The detailing is really good. It isn't a smart TV. Unless you are directly hooked up to your internet provider, or the DVD player offers similar features, it will be just a basic TV with really good resolution capability when playing a bluray. I hope this helps.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I actually did a side by side comparison and the insignia is way better... the clarity and black levels blow the toshiba away.i bought the insignia over the toshiba. Btw insignia is Best Buy's house brand.... toshiba hasn't been in the running for a long while, I've had toshiba quality, and dookie products. Lately they are booboo.
