Hi I purchased the AVH-1550NEX 3 1/2 weeks ago, but just got it installed today at Best Buy (Only Appt available). I do have an Apple iPhone. The installer informed me that for Carplay to work (ANdroid equivalent) it must be plugged, will not work off Bluetooth. Regarding GPS or Apps (Waze, Google Maps), the installer told me that even though your phone is plugged in, if you press the GPS icon, the Pioneer defaults to Apple Maps, not Google or Waze (you have to press their respective Apps to utilize them. I assume Android users GPS default is Google Maps on their phones, but what I'm not sure is if Pioneer defaults to the phone's default GPS or just to Apple Maps in general. Hope this helps, wish I could be more definitive in my response. If I learn something new, I'll follow up. Have a good one.
