“I have a brand new smart TV and want to get surround sound out of it when watching cable TV or Netflix (or other app). Can I hook this one up with a high speed HDMI cable and use the ARC for audio? Or do I need to use an optical cable?”

All your HDMI devices hook to the amp and the amp works as a switcher and a single HDMI to the TV, the sound is amazing for all devices this way, I also use chrome cast through the amp and its great, you can also use an optical cable from your TV to the amp so your TV Apps can be played in high quality surround sound. Best of both worlds A very flexible receiver, easy to setup and use.

Please try again later.I have my fire-stick and cable TV, the optical cable works great for my fire-stick, but whenever I changed the channel via cable I lost sound, so I had to use audio red & white cables from cable box to receiver as well This has been a serious time consuming project, still not done with all the settings LOL
