“Magnified on my pc screen it looks to me like it is a HDMI male shaped connection (protruding from this device) Why is it adtertized as USB? A USB is always RECTANGULAR w/plastic rectangular plate inside the connector pin opening. This can not be a USB.”

It is HDMI, the USB port is used to apply power to the device.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The device itself indeed has a male HDMI. It's the AC device that has a USB extension. The HDMI, of course, goes into your TV's HDMI 'outlet.' One end of the AC device goes into the device (it'll be obvious) and the USB end either goes into a USB outlet in your TV, or into a nearby 'wall outlet' via the adapter, included, if not.
