My opinion: Best Buy used to have a TotalTech Membership a few years ago for less than $200; which covered all parts of installation in addition to taking care of issues of any electronic items you have (even if you did not buy it at Best Buy). Best Buy lost a lot of money on that particular plan. So, now to make up for the mistakes of the executive(s) who came up with the previous plan; they came up with a watered down version of this “TotalTech Membership”….now called “My Best Buy or My Total”. With these “new memberships”, there is poor communication between Best Buy Sales people and Geek Squad; where in the end the company decided to nickle & dime customers with all these ads-on’s up to $800 or more for the install process …now that’s in addition to all the TV and accessories you purchased. I could see that the Geek Squad personnel are forced to ask for all these Add-on’s to make up for the Best Buy executive(s) previous years blunder. I personally see this as another big mistake. Geek squad will begin to look like vultures for nickel & diming customers post-purchase since Best Buy Sales people did not do a proper job setting install up properly during the TV purchase and install order (because they won’t be able to sell TV’s if they had to do $800 worth of Add-on’s). Best Buy will loose customers with all these negative but truthful reviews of their new, but misleading practice(s) which the customers are not made aware of at purchase of the TV, delivery, & install order. I was told that I only had to pay $249 for the Over 56” TV Install, and that all other parts of install would be taken care (within that fee); this is after i discussed a list of items that I needed installed with the TV, and had pictures of the area where items needed to be installed. Beware of BestBuy sales who nod to everything you are asking. Make sure they show you written proof of what was discussed. My BestBuy sales guy did not show me proof even when I asked for it (since I noticed the order to be missing some items; he said the specifics we discussed are on the Geek squad order and that I won’t be able to see it). Later on, I found out that he did not write anything that was discussed. I liked my Geek squad installers. I think they did a great job. But I truly believe that they are placed in an awkward position by being forced to do all these “surprise” Add-on’s ….and this way of doing install or business is unfortunately going to backfire on BestBuy as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Total tech cures all of this. I think it's so that if someone needs a simpler install versus over the fireplace, on top of rock, spending extra time to connect your other equipment, etc then the charge only those parts
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I know they add an additional fee if you are mounting it above a fireplace or someplace unique. I don't feel you need all three. Sometimes the computer adds stuff automatically based on what the sales rep entered.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I totally agree that the add-on specialty tv mounting should not apply to everyone. Today I had a 55" TV mounted over my mantle and I watched the installers. They did what anyone would do. They checked for the studs, mounted the "large" tilt tv mount placed the tv on the mount, plugged it in and they were finished. I am now left with an ugly cord from the tv to the outlet. So now I have to hire an electrician to relocate the outlet to behind the tv. Best Buy's Geek Squad DID NOT perform any special service. I feel I am due a refund of $129.99 NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER
