QuestionI want to buy my mother a new flip phone. would she be able to transfer pictures and numbers to the new phone. would it be done in the store.

- Answer It honestly will depend on the phone that your mother currently has and whether this phone is an upgrade [totally new], downgrade [had a smart phone and is now just going with something simpler] or just a sidegrade [same type of phone, just newer]. My previous phone was a TracFone but an older model to this Alcatel model. They tried to transfer the contacts at the store for me but my phone was too old to be compatible with that sort of link. If you are going from a smart phone to this flip phone, there might also be some difficulties. In the end, I would suggest showing the older phone you have to a tech support person at the store to see if they've done successful transfers with it. If they've done a successful transfer before between the two types, they'll be able to let you know immediately and should be able to do it for you at the store. The store I went to even had a manual cable set-up when they made the attempt with my old phone so there are options.

- Answer Yes, the TracFone Alcatel has an option for read out. Go to Settings, scroll to Device, click on Accessibility, and you can option to turn the Readout on. Of note, you might have to doublecheck to make sure it 'sticks' after the next time you charge your phone. I've noticed that my phone's front pic tends to alternate between the factory Beach Scene default and the photo I took to personalize my phone whenever I charge the thing. As I don't use the read out feature [or many features for that matter since it's an emergency travel phone], I can't report for sure whether it might switch off after charging.

QuestionSo i have a question, im going to be buying this for my dad. I want to know for certain that when it comes time to renew his minutes do i need to buy from the "smrtphone" plans or from the "basic phone" plans. Im assuming smartphone but i want to be sure.

- Answer This flip phone is not a smart phone. You cannot add apps to it. It's basic cell phone service with the ability to surf the internet on a very small screen (approx. 2" x 2.5"). So buying a smart phone plan would be spending more money than he would need to.

QuestionAre there temp extremes this phone can operate in? I frequently leave my phone in my truck during the summer & winter & my current Tracfone (non-smart phone) operates fine. As smart phones don't like temp extremes, i want to stay with a non-smart phone
