“Does this unit auto-play video when powered on? If not, are there plans on updating the firmware so that it can? My Aluratek 14" widescreen has this capability so I assumed this unit would also. Thanks.”

No this unit will not auto play video. You must go into the video tab on the home screen and play your videos from that section. They cannot play within a slideshow with photos.
