“The audio randomly drops out while still connected. Google Maps continues to display properly and the music is still “playing”, the audio just drops out. How do I make the audio more stable and consistent? This is very frustrating. About to return item.”

I would suggest trying to tighten up your usb connection either with a piece of electrical tape or some other means because that is more than likely the issue...loose usb port connection.

There is a chance the hand-shake connection made by the adapter and phone is not strong or using different Bluetooth profiles. If the problem persists then take it back before it's too late.
