This happens to my kids' a lot. Hold down the power button for 20 seconds, let go, and then push it again and that always works for us.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I spoke to Amazon & they don't believe in repairs. They want to offer you an upgraded discount. At this point with the first kindle not charging & the second one frozen, I've lost confidence in Kindle!
