You DO NOT need wifi to download books if it has the cellular.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Whispernet (the name of Amazon's 3G service, which is run through AT&T) will work for select things without needing wi-fi. It provides free access to the Kindle storefront as well as free delivery (and redelivery) of any books you purchase through Amazon. It also offers paid delivery of non-Amazon purchased files via an e-mail address for around 10-15 cents per document. I'm not sure if it covers Audible delivery or not. Wifi can still be used for free delivery of any non-Amazon purchased titles by using a different e-mail address to send it to the Kindle. More details about the e-mail addresses and fees can be found in the Kindle section of your Amazon account once you have the device attached to your account. Whispernet also used to provide free access to Wikipedia, but I don't recall if that is still available or not. I know they had been debating dropping it at one point, but I'm not sure if they actually did. I haven't bothered using it for Wikipedia access in quite some time though as it's quicker and easier on my phone.
