“Somehow the phone doesn't automatically link up. I usually have to pull it out of the lighter socket and push back in. I don't think it works that way and now I can't get it to ever ever connect. What am I doing wrong?”

When I crank my car the device automatically looks for a bluetooth to connect with. Ether your device is defective or your lighter port constantly sends power to the device even when the car is off which will not give the device time to reboot.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchase this item on 02/08/2020 for a 2005 car. It has been working as expected since I configured the FM station and paired it with my iPhone. Maybe you got a defective unit, so I suggest you get it replaced.
