Yes. No. Maybe. It all depends on your location and what your dwelling is constructed of. Go here: http://www.tvfool.com enter your address and you will get a map of the transmitters with their direction, distance and signal strength along with a list of channels and what you may need to get a good signal from them. It will also generate an anonymized link that you can then use in http://www.dtvusaforum.com to get further advise on what equipment to try.

Absolutely not. I would never have forked over $150 plus dollars if I had to buy something else to make it work right. It is completely self contained and ready to pull in more stations than you think and all in HD exactly or better than you get from Comcast or Dish. The only thing I paid for extra is the $50 bucks Best Buy charged me as it took their Geek about 20 minutes to put it together (it has a lot of parts out of the box). But it was well worth it so I didn't have to hassle with it.

I used a distribution amplifier for use with four TV connections. I live in a difficult receptions area. The need for an amplifier depends on reception at your location, and if you plan to connect additional TVs.

I think everything depends on how long the cable is. From my layman's understanding, 15 feet is when you start to reduce or lose signal strength.
