• Yes you can replace the battery in the 850VA. The replacement battery is RBC #17 (APC). You could possibly use other compatible brands as well.

• It's a lead-acid battery but it should only be charged inside the UPS by the APC UPS circuit. The battery is replaceable, but install it in the UPS before trying to charge.
