No, the readout cannot be turned. I would NOT place this unit on its side - the battery is made to stand up. The readout times out pretty quickly - I would say 15-20 seconds before it goes black.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No the read out will shut off after 10 or so seconds. You should not lay the unit on its side as it has vents on both sides to cool the unit. at the bottom If you push the far right button it will show the read out

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Read out does not stay on constantly. But you can go directly to previous spot simply by pushing the read out button. the read out is easy enough to see on its side but I do not believe it can be set to flip sideways.
