Is this unit Sinewave or Simulated Sinewave? Which consumer APC backup UPS's use Sinewave?   (3 Answers)

        Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. The BX1500G provides a stepped approximated sine wave while on battery power. If your equipment needs a pure sine wave at all times, we would recommend something in our Smart-UPS line. ( SMT model ). We also have some AV specific units which provide a pure sine wave while on battery power.

        Answer

The replacement batteries from APC are over half the cost of the unit with shipping, "they are heavy" but I never got that far mine burned up after 3 weeks Back to BB I am using my old one as strictly a surge suppressor now I just cancel the battery dead warning after a power failure when I restart. I may get a deep cycle 12V marine battery and put it in a battery box to regain backup capabilities. There are videos on Youtube that show you how to do this.

          Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately we don't recommend using our BackUPS Pro units with a motorized load. One potential issue is the inrush current draw for a motor can easily overload a BackUPS Pro unit. BackUPS Pro is ideal for computer equipment and may result in the erratic behavior when connected to a motor. To protect this type of equipment, APC recommends first determining the appropriate size UPS for the motor load in question and ensure the UPS is large enough to handle the start-up inrush current draw of the motor. Secondly, select a UPS which outputs a pure sine wave when on battery, such as a Smart-UPS.

How long can I run two 6 watt water pumps on an aquariums during loss of power? Also, does this unit turn on any particular outlets after loos of power? In other words I want to run a pump only when I lose my street power.   (4 Answers)

          Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. At 12 watts, the unit would give you around 315 minutes of runtime. The UPS has surge and battery outlets. So you can connect your pump to the battery outlets while your fish lamps to the surge only. This way only the filters would continue to run during a power outage while the lights would turn out.

Thank you for your inquiry. If you install our Powerchute Personal Edition software, you can disable the on battery alarm. If the software is not needed, you can simply remove it once the alarm is disabled.

Thank you for inquiry. Yes you will have to leave the USB cable connected to the computer. This way the computer can receive signals from the UPS when it is on battery to trigger your computer to shutdown.

What is considered a full load for this unit?   (9 Answers)

Is a full load calculated in watts or volts? If watts, how many watts constitutes a full load, or if calculated in volts, how many volts constitutes a full load?

          Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. A full load is calculated in watts, with the maximum wattage for this device being 865W. For our units, we do not suggest putting more than 80% of the total load on the UPS so that it can be operated without the concern for an overload. 80% load for this unit would be 692W which yields 6 minutes of runtime.

        Readout   (10 Answers)

Can the readout be turned so that the unit can be placed on its side. Also does the readout stay on constantly

          Answer

No, the readout cannot be turned. I would NOT place this unit on its side - the battery is made to stand up. The readout times out pretty quickly - I would say 15-20 seconds before it goes black.

            Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately our PowerChute software will not work with the Mac OS. However you can use the power saving features integrated into the operating system to provide a graceful shutdown of the system. Below is the link that will show you how to do this. Also you can mute the unit using the buttons on the UPS itself. You wouldn't need to use the software to do this. You can mute the unit by holding the mute button on the UPS for around 2 seconds. Please do not hesitate to contact an APCbySchneider support team if you need any further assistance.
