You need a new line it's consider plan for iPad about 35 dlls a month it depends on your carry

You can activate a separate cellular line for the iPAD, or use your iPhone's WiFI hotspot feature to connect your iPAD to the WiFi from your phone.

When it says “cellular” it means that you are paying for a separate line. My iPad has its’ own phone number. I can, when I am not home, use it with the cell data I have to do anything my cell can, including taking calls and texting.
