The i9 processor is only available as a custom build order from am Apple store.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The i5 and i9 systems are different generation computers. I don't think you can upgrade from an i5 to an i9. The one I bought was the i9. At least that is what the iMac guru in the store told me. Not sure where you saw that the i5 is upgradeable to i9. I saw somewhere that the sockets for the two processors are different. Don't take this as the ultimate answer, but it's a bit of the picture for what it's worth.
