You will need to buy a separate modem, then you will use an ethernet cable and plug that into the Airport Extreme.

If your cable modem is currently connected to your computer with an ethernet cable (oversized phone cable): 1. Unplug the ethernet cable from your computer and plug that into the lowest ethernet port on the back of your Airport Extreme. The ethernet cable should now be connecting the cable modem to the Airport Extreme. Now you have a choice to make. Do you want to have a wireless connection? If so you will need to follow the instructions included in the Airport Userguide. Do you want a wired connection? Then connect another ethernet cable to your Airport Extreme and then to your computer. This will provide the connection that works like this: Cable Modem to Airport Extreme to Computer. Once the connections are established then you will need to power down both the Cable Modem and the Airport Extreme (router). Also turn off your computer. Next wait five minutes and turn on the modem, wait five more minutes and power on your Airport Extreme. Finally, turn on the computer. Airport Extreme routers require an App - The Airport Utility. You will need this app to setup your Airport Extreme. The app is available for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Windows. You will need your Airport Userguide to help you configure your Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility.
