Cell service continues as long as you pay your bill after the 2 years are up. Then after the initial 2-year contract, Verizon will probably send you notifications to encourage you to buy another ipad along with getting another 2-year contract, but you don't have to. You are allowed to continue without any contract for your cell service after that initial 2-year contracted period by continuing to pay your monthly bill.
