Yes, if you’re paying in full I’d recommend you buy directly from Apple ( unlocked) then just insert your Tmobile SIMCARD

Yes I bought through best buy because there was a better rebate than T-Mobile. Also be sure to start the transfer in store while you can use your old phone for Apple to send you a verification code (if you are trading in your old phone). I wound up getting stuck because the old phone was traded at store before starting the transfer from backup. I wound up having to take the phone to a T-Mobile store and they have a workaround if you get stuck at this point.

Yes, you would just have to upgrade your phone. But the only way to get the discounts is to activate it (connect it to a phone line). I took my wife's old phone amd traded it in for the new iPhone and it got her phone number.
