why is this so much better then the old mackbook air null

In my opinion it is better than the previous MacBook Air, it is lighter and seems to be faster. I bought mine to replace a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina and so far I am very happy with it.

Processor changes, and overall design changes make it better to a degree. But 'better' is all relative. If you can live with the transition to USB-C and the keyboard, then it's a great fit. However, if you have a lot of older peripherals. The older MacBook Air is probably a better fit.

The Retina display alone makes the old MacBook Air like a relic.

Well it has better inner functions and touch id but the biggest game changer is the new retina display, which the old macbook air lacked
