Yes it does cover the front and back of computer

The iPad folio folds the screen over the keyboard.and locks over the camera.

I think that it really just depends. I had my previous iPad Air for 6 years and never put a screen protector on it but always had a case on it and that always worked for me. With this iPad I have yet to put a screen protector on it but after getting this keyboard folio case I almost considered it as I do not feel it adds much in terms of protection. I ended up finding a case maker that makes a case that works in conjunction with this Smart Keyboard folio so I think I will hold off on putting a screen protector on. But that is totally up to you honestly.
