• Yes, it can be attached to a receiver. My Apple TV is attached to my receiver with an HDMI chord and thus plays through my atmos speakers.

• Yes it can if the receiver has an hdmi or optical audio out, little red light on the back. Otherwise most modern TVs have audio out to go to a receiver or sound bar. So connect it with an hdmi to the tv and then run the connection out from the tv to the receiver.
