- Answer Sure you can. But not from Microsoft. They don't sell it anymore. But don't waste your money. I hate windows 8 too. On the other hand windows 8.1 is nice. Plus windows 10 is coming soon.

QuestionWhat brand and type of ram do you buy to expand to 8gb?There is only on memory slot in the laptop and I was told to buy the 2 x 4gb ram from PNY to install onto the laptop and it did not work so I bought the one 8gb ram memory stick and it still will not recognize the newly upgraded memory. Any help would be great, thanks.

- Answer I had a similar question about upgrading the ram. After speaking with ASUS customer service, it seems that the "pre-installed" 4GB is actually non-removable. There is a slot to add extra ram, for a TOTAL of 8GB. So, if you bought a 8GB stick, you have a total of 12GB ram installed which is over it's max supported. looks like all you can do is add a 4GB stick into the open slot.
