Yes - depending on the monitor and connection method. For example: Some monitors will have a 144hz display but offer it only through a VGA connection, while limiting HDMI connections to 60hz. Also make sure the laptop is not mirroring the screen and the laptop is set to "second screen only" while connected to the monitor.
