I'm not familiar with the other model you are referring to, but the hinge on this laptop is very durable and much better quality than any other screen hinge I've seen (I've broken a few myself over the years). It is made of metal like the rest of the laptop and there is no plastic bezel around the screen like all of my previous laptops have had. The screen itself is more like an iPad- flat all the way to the edges.
