“The only difference I see between this & the model this appears to be replacing (marked down to 1350) is 2.7 ghz processor vs 2.5. All of the other specs appear identical. Is there a noticeable improvement with the +0.2 in processor?”

I am answering my own question for those wondering about this model. The only difference/improvement vs the identical model now on sale & being discontinued is the processor. This has the 7th gen i7, vs 6th gen. Still dual core. 2.7 ghz vs 2.5. With turbo 3.5 ghz vs 3.1. I was told by a friend of mine with computer tech knowledge, as well as the Best Buy rep, that this updated & slightly improved processor is not easily noticeable now or in the short term future, especially if just web surfing & doing basic video. The BB rep did mention several years down the road is when the difference may be more of a benefit. But still a subtle one since the 6th gen is still a very good i7 & the rest of the computer specs that have not changed (i.e. 16 gb of ram & the ssd) will still perform very well. Since I was in the exchange window I ended up getting this updated model. I did pay full price so $100 more than the discounted one I returned. For me it is worth it, even if it's just peace of mind knowing I have the best version of this computer & very current 7th gen processor.

I've actually owned both of the laptops in question, this one and the immediately previous model. I'll start by saying that you're right- the only two differences between the two, comparing them side by side in my living room, are the CPU (i7-6500 vs. i7-7500) and the color/finish ("chocolate brown w/ copper hinge" vs. "Black Aluminum with Gunmetal Hinge"). And you're also right about the 200MHz clock difference carrying no noticeable or benchmark-able performance increase; the CPUmark for the 7xxx series is actually a hair lower even, and in practice I got identical frame rates, lagged at same (VERY VERY rare, only at top settings) points. But the WAS a HUGE difference in one area: BATTERY LIFE. Both these guys have large batteries and even last year's model gave me better-than-average, even better-than-expected battery life. I used it primarily for video-editing, photoshop, and/or gaming, and even under those high demands I'd consistently get 3 - 3.5Hrs at high performance settings (5 if I went power saving mode) out of last year's model, which was good to great compared to others I used. The new one with the 7500 BLOWS THAT AWAY. I now can usually get a full 7.5 - 8 hour workday, of high drain, graphics intensive use, on top settings, out of a single charge. I put it into mid battery save mode and was astonished when the battery lasted ALL 13+ HOURS of a flight from Minneapolis to Tokyo. I have made this journey a number of times, always working until the batt died then going to sleep, but this guy kept me up all night! FYI, totally reduces jet lag, but Im digressing... I don't usually write reviews but the difference in this was so pronounced that when I saw this I had to add my two cents. I never realized how much battery the CPU was using, but this demonstrates the way it can be going forward. Hats off to Intel and ASUS on this one.

This time I bought the best one I could find and am glad I did. I'm very pleased with this particular laptop. This is my second Asus laptop and I'm extremely happy with both. My older one is 4 years old and still runs great. The specs on that one are quite a bit less than this new one, so I do have something to compare to. I would buy this unit again because of the faster processor.
