When you refer to external applications are you using a connected external monitor? If so, that is a windows issue and not the laptop. Windows 10 does not handle proper scaling with an external monitor and the laptop running at 4K. I highly recommend that you run just external monitors with the laptop display disabled or just the laptop display.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think the issue you are having is due to Windows having very poor scaling for 4k display this model has. You can choose to lower the resolution to 1920x1080 and that should fix the scaling, granted you will be running a lower resolution. Or if you really want to run at 4k, you can raise the scaling percentage (right click on the desktop then left click display settings, the percentage will be there).
