From my research, this laptop can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM. You can also swap out the slow 5400 RPM hard drive to an SSD hard drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later."Anonymous" is correct! I used Crucial scan and ordered their 16 GB RAM upgrade and 1 TB SSD. The SSD drive swap was painless but the memory install didn't work as hoped. There is 4 GB already built into the motherboard and only the option to add one stick of RAM (up to 8 GB. The only gain achieved by swapping is upping the speed from 1600 MT/S to 1866 MT/S. Having replaced the stock 2.5" 5400 RPM SATA drive with a 1TB Solid State Drive, I left the Optical drive in, and purchased a NexStar CX external HD case with SATA to 3.0 connection from Crucial and mounted my HDD in there. You can opt to remove the Optical drive and install your HDD there but there are no additional HDD bays. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The memory is NOT upgradable. it has 4gb on board and a 8gb card @ 12gb total. with that being said...12gb is plenty! I have no issues with my Q553. I run Adobe Premiere and After Effects on a daily basis.
