“My drive is not reading either CDs or DVDs. it buzzes a bit, then spins down and nothing. Not displaying in Disk Utility. Throw it out the window and go buy from a different maker? Every time I risk Asus, they fail. Not making this mistake again.”

If it's not reading any dics, please verify if the PC meets the system requirements of the optical drive. If it does, check if chipset driver and OS are up to date, and a DVD player or application was installed.
