The "R" versions are exactly the same as the "U" versions of ASUS routers. Please do not confuse the RT-N66U/R with the RT-AC66U/R as the AC version IS different from the N version. If there are any price differences between "R" and "U" routers, it is the choice of the seller.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I tried doing some research on this. What I have gathered is that the R version stands for the retail version sold at stores. The U version is ones sold at online retailers like amazon, new egg and such. The only other thing that has come up before is a guy attempting to put custom firmware on it and having to use an older version of DD-WRT on the router for the U version. Other than that everyone claims it's the same router. The other thing I gathered is to keep folks from price matching online retailers in stores, which kinda sucks because they technically don't have the same "model number", but it's still a good router. The things with reviews could be due to different type of people may buy from stores vs online retailers. Me being one at time simply for being impatient and not wanting to wait for shipping.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.R is the retail version from Best Buy. U & R versions are identical.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Asus confirms they are the same router, the R designates it as a retail store item, helps Asus track what items are being sold where. The price is dependent on deals that stores have with manufacturers. The only way that those reviews would be valid in the way you say, is for each person to have both routers, and even then, no to components are exactly the same, there may be small variances.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the best buy model may have slightly newer hardware, I have the U and it works great.
