This model unit is a 15.6" unit. It weighs 4.85 lbs and the battery of it can last up to 4 ~ 5 hours. It is portable enough/ergonomic for a college student

It may be on the bigger side depending on how many notes you have spread out, but I am currently using it for college with a great Thule camera bag, and it is more than sufficient. You could also get a laptop sleeve, but get a 17" sleeve. It is a large 15.6" meaning the borders around the screen are a little large (~.75" to one inch at the bottom edge. The battery is quite good, thanks to the low revving HD (5,400 RPM helps battery life). It is lighter than my old 15.6" HP laptop, and quite thin!
