“Will I need an 8th gen processor on hand to update the BIOS when the 9900k comes out or can I update it with USB? I do not own an 8 and I don't know anybody that can let me borrow one.”

Yes you'd need to buy or borrow an 8th gen processor to flash a new bios. Alternatively you could take it to a PC shop and ask them to update the bios for you.
