If you are on a very tight budget, this would be a good laptop for college. It is light. The screen has high resolution, and it has excellent battery life. On the other hand, it is significantly slower than more expensive laptops. If your budget can handle it, I think you would be more satisfied with the Macbook Air 13 or Acer Swift 3 (also available at Best Buy), both of which have an I5 processor (roughly twice as fast) with more RAM and faster SSD storage.

Yes, this is a great unit for college. Start up is very quick when you need it for class notes or PowerPoints.
