Thanx EnthusedAboutRyzen8000 (me too, and Ryzen 9000 as well), and I read the Asus newsletter and it’s consistent with what you said. However, the Specs definitely says 16 GB of LPDDR5X, and those chips are always soldered as far as I know. Plus there are other errors in that news article (like it says USB 2.0 and almost certainly it must have USB 4.0, plus it specs Ryzen 7000 chips when it actually used Ryzen 8000 CPUs). Almost certainly those were preliminary specs, but the 8000 CPUs came out in time to sub in those (plus supported USB 4.0 - explaining that error. So I don’t trust that news article. I will assume 16 GB soldered until such time as affirmed or corrected by a purchaser, or researched thoroughly by Asus staff.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is Asus M5606UA-DS96 with AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS, but it has a sister model S5606MA-DS96 with Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU. Both are Vivobook S 16 OLED laptops, new 2024 models. Their Best Buy SKUs differ by one in their least significant digit, by which we can tell that BB added them to their inventory at the same time. Also, using the BB compare tool, we see that these two models specs are very similar, mainly differing in CPU plus Intel has Thunderbolt 4 whereas AMD has USB-C 4.0. By this I conclude that both models have 16 GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory (and that’s what the comparison says too, with both differing from that apparently inaccurate Asus news article). Not sure why the trend toward soldered-in memory, but it might have to do with the desire to out-skinny the Macbook. Speaking of Macbook, I want everybody to gang together and complain to Best Buy because they refuse to stock any Macs with more than 8 GB in an era when any computer with less than 16 GB is e-Waste.
