“Does the tablet actually have a USB port or do you have to use the keyboard? We need to use a USB scanner with this device,preferably without having to use the keyboard”

You have to use the keyboard/dock. Good luck getting that from Asus.

The tablet does not have a USB port on it. The USB port is only on the docking station/keyboard. I would check with Windows 8 RT compatibility first before using the USB scanner. Drivers might not be compatible and it might not work with the o/s.
