“How is the hinge design on this unit? Is it the same with the earlier ASUS laptops from the UX303 line? I read somewhere that those hinges were not as durable because of some design flaw.”

Horrible... steer clear of this model (ux303ub) and company for that matter. Check out my review. My right hinge broke completely off the LCD side after just 3 months of daily use. I called ASUS and they made me pay to ship it back to them in California for repairs. This is a poorly designed machine.
