If you pair a Bluetooth headset, you can take calls while leaving your phone in your pocket. This watch does have a speaker, but it is dormant until a future update to Android Wear enables it. It also has a microphone, of course, that is used for responding to text messages, and using "OK Google" commands.

But just the regular version with WiFi and Bluetooth will help in answering calls and declining calls for your phone and managing calls from your watch once you answer them. Like muting the call, speaker phone, or ending the call.
