- Answer No. It is not for that. You might try answering once someone starts recording and see if the machine cuts off or keeps recording, but for more secretive type recording of your phone calls you will need to buy a fancier product.

QuestionI just purchased the 1740 voicemail. I have it setup and connected to my phone. However, when I call the phone number the phone continues to ring (I have it set on 3 rings) and never gets sent to voicemail. Any ideas?

- Answer If you have home internet on the same line, you may need a DSL filter, otherwise, the interference can keep the machine from picking up a ring.

QuestionI have a 1740 answering machine. It sometimes cuts off before the whole message has been left, but not all the time. The person leaving the message can tell they are cut off. This is the 2nd AT&T machine that I've had and it has happened on both. Why?

- Answer Seems like your machine could be defective and or the message the caller is leaving may be too long; for the remaining length of time left on your machine. 60 Minutes total time for recording.

QuestionI bought my dad a Ultratec Crystal Tone Amplified corded phone (hearing impaired) and he cant get his answering machine to work with it. He lives in another town so I can't trouble shoot. Would this answering machine work with the phone I bought him?
