• Base needs a line cord bye base recharges battery in phone. By keeping phone invade it is always charged and ready to go.

• Yes - the handset cradle plugs into a 110/120v wall outlet to recharge the handset batteries, but not to the base station. When the batteries (ultimately) go bad, it is far cheaper to buy another handset rather than new battery.
