Yes, you must purchase a mobile hotspot plan separately when buying this device or any cellular device that can access the internet. It can be a postpaid (billed on a monthly bases) or prepaid (you pay beforehand in denominations; i.e. $10 and higher) in the form of debit, credit, or a refill card that have many dollar denominations; and buy minutes it at your discretion. You can refill online or by phone.
