• Once you build it keep it in the normal position, this shelf is fragile.

• No, I do not think that would work. If you were to lay it flat on the floor and then push it under the bed, I think that it would become too heavy to access it easily. It would not be easy to select a DVD or to replace it. When it becomes full, it is very heavy to move. Also I doubt it was designed to be durable enough for that kind of use.
