If your local library has the epub format you will have no trouble. I use Adobe Digital Editions to download to and transfer to Nook. I also use Calibre, a wonderful free book program to store and transfer books I find from other sources such as Smashwords or Gutenberg.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My library uses OVERDRIVE software to manage borrowed books. You'll have to download Adobe E-Reader from the adobe.com website and put it on your computer. Then when you borrow a book, choose the Adobe EPub (or comparable) format and download it. It should connect wirelessly, but if it doesn't, connect your Nook to your computer via the USB cord and it will move onto the Nook. When your book loan expires, the manual says if you renew your book before that date, you won't lose your place. HOWEVER, that didn't work for me. I had to remember where I was and download the book again and find my place again. I'm still getting used to it. The Kindle app is a lot more user friendly but not compatible with the Nook.
