I love my Nook for reading eBooks! It's very light weight & easy to hold in one hand. The battery stays up so long I tend to forget it needs charged once a month or so. I have a Kindle also, but I can't read very much on it, because I'm constantly tempted to play games, surf the internet, read emails, watch movies, etc., etc. When I sit down with my Nook, I can concentrate on the eBook I'm reading and really get into it. Plus, I've got hundreds of eBooks on it with plenty of room left. Right now I have 3 different eBooks going, and I can switch between them according to what I'm in the mood to read. If I get tired of reading one, I just switch over to another and I'm reading something else. This model has the glow light so it's real easy to read in a dimly lighted area. I don't usually read in the dark, but I could with this reader. All in all, I would highly recommend this eBook reader to anyone who loves to read, but doesn't want to be distracted while reading. If on the other hand, you like to just read a little, and then watch a movie or other activity, you probably should go with something else.

I bought this about a month and half ago and have been using it pretty steadily (I've gone through 4 books so far). Buying and uploading books to the Nook is very simply and the ability to read the books on the Nook is great. The Glow Light feature is also simple to use and I have had no issue with it. The battery lasts quite a long time - not counting the initial charge I've only had to charge it once since I bought it - although will need to recharge soon :-)
The only issue I have run into is the touch screen. It sometimes gets a little glitchy and it won't sense my touch (I have to touch the screen a few times until is works). This seems to happen when the battery life gets down below 30%.
Other than that, the product has been working great for me.

i have a tablet but reading on an e-ink device is far easier on my eyes during prolonged periods and the battery life is phenomenal. Plus it can be read in direct sunlight. I already owned this one but upgraded to the newer glow when it came out. Found out quickly I prefer this one. Knowing B&N will be discontinuing this, I bought a new one for down the road when mine gives out. This is superior to kindle paperwhite because paperwhites don't read epubs.
This is superior to the new glow because the new glow has no expansion slot, which is a must for me because I have too much non B&N books/materials to load. The replacement doesn't have the turns on the grippers either. Both can turn pages by touching or swiping but a one-handed hold & swipe, such as when laying down in bed is difficult. Squeezing the gripper is far easier. I have to hold with both hands to swipe the new one without gripper turns. It's a pain. I also find I prefer the slightly warmer tinted light on this vs the slightly cooler tint on the replacement glow.. The new one does do a better job of distributing light but I find the tint on this one to be easier on the eyes. And I hate the white bezel on the new one. Seems to interfere with reading enjoyment for me. I like this black on this version. This version is slightly heavier but not much. The biggest negative for this version is that the screen needs to be protected in a cover when not in use. The screen can get small 'tears' where the light can shine through in places it sustains any hard knocks.

I'm a very experienced computer user and find the response on this machine a little slow. Because nothing comes with a decent manual anymore, and I live far from a Barnes & Noble store where they offer free instructions on this machine, I had to search the internet for detailed operating instructions. I have a lot of Kindle books I wanted to store on it, and found a program on download.com that converts the format and works well. But if you want to borrow books from the library you need to install Adobe E-Reader from the adobe.com website. So, that means 2 programs on your computer just for transferring books to the Nook. It's OK if you remember what to use with what. However, I do enjoy being able to take 6 or 7 books along with me anywhere and it doesn't take much room or weigh down my luggage. I bought a slim cover that has a hand strap for holding it up in bed. I just love it. Haven't tried it in the sun or any of the social media sites it says it works with.

This is my second nook purchase. This one was bought for my daughter who loves it. It is extremely lightweight and easy to use. The price was great and because it's not a regular tablet and didn't cost a ton of money, you can bring it with you everywhere. The back light is also great for reading at night.

I read the reviews when this first came out about the widespread problem of screens developing bright spots. However, having handled both the Nook GL and Kindle Paperwhite at Best Buy, I liked the ergonomic feel of the Nook better. I decided to try my luck and hope that perhaps B&N had corrected the design/manufacturing process since this model had been out for quiet a while (I purchased it in Dec 2013). Unfortunately, my unit came with the dreaded bright spot. For the records, I also purchased a unit at another store a week later, which also came with two bright spots. I decided to keep the unit with the less noticable bright spot, simply because I got it at a great deal, and I know the Kindle Paperwhite rarely gets discounted (and if so, not as significant of a discount). Other than the bright spot, I'm otherwise happy with the unit and it's versatility (ergonomic, expandable microSD slot, ability to hack (though I've not done it), good battery life, ability to read in the dark, fairly fast response to page turns and touch).

This is my second simple touch glow. Both of the have cases and screen protectors and somehow the screen has had small chips and my first one ended up getting a huge crack. I did not drop it, kept it in my purse. I bought second one because the chips in screen made it difficult to read. Within three days my new one already had two chip and now there are 4. The screen is way too fragile and for the money I have spent I expect for it to hold up better especially when I have protected it everyway I can.
I love how light weight it is, long battery life and easy to read outdoors.
I also have a nook color which I love but the battery life is too short and it takes forever to charge. It's heavy and hard to read outside, however there are no cracks or chips and I've had it for 6 years. It has clear screen and great for reading at night.

No, the Nook Simple Touch does not allow you to randomly search the Internet. But, if you are looking for an inexpensive e-reader to take advantage of the many e-books available (some free), it is a great little device! Easy to use, long battery life, and adaptable to many situations with the glowlight feature. You won't be disappointed!

A solid, easy-to-use eReader that offers great value for the money. I bought this for my daughter, and we now have a Nook, an older Kobo and a Kindle, but the Nook is so far the best: easy to load content, and easy to read the screen, even in the dark.

I love this e-reader. The backlight is perfect for reading in the evening, & it is easy to use. The downside was not being able to get it registered with B&N at home. My network wouldn't recognize it. Went to B&N and they registered it in less than a minute, now I have no problems with it on my Wi-Fi. Also has Epub, which Kindle does not. I use that in Europe to down load books.

I purchased this reader for my daughter who owns a Kindle Fire after my wife received one as a gift. My daughter prefers the Glowlight for reading over her Kindle because it is lighter and is easier on her eyes! This is a wonderful product.

The Nook e-reader had clear and easy instructions and took very little time to set up and download my first book. Being able to adjust the font for easy reading was a great asset. The backlit light makes reading in any lighting conditions a breeze. I highly recommend this item for readers of any ability.

I love my new Nook with Glow Light. I had the Nook Simple Touch without the glow light, and would have to find a chair to curl up in at night that had a light by it. Now, I can sit in my favorite "reading chair" anytime and read.

Our teenager loves this dev ice for traveling. We are big readers and carrying books on the plane trip is a pain. Planning ahead allows us to load this and be ready. My only complaint is that is is hard to load the books from our library because you need a cable to hook it to your computer. This the down-side of the entry-level model.

I've been using e-ink based readers since the Kindle 1. I've always been concerned about LCD's ruining my eyes and thanks to this device (once rooted), I can do my web surfing on an eye friendly e-ink screen since this is running Android in the background. I can't recommend this enough and now my wife doesn't have to hassle me when I would like to get some reading done in bed.
My only wish is a larger and higher resolution color e-ink screen but I m sure that will be coming 5 years from now.
The ability to add a microSD card also adds to the great beyond Kindle feature list.

Nice improvement over the non-lighted version. No more blinding drivers with a separate reading light n the car at night. Nice light weight. Easy to read.
